English Language Multimedia Online Course for English Teachers and Those Seeking to Become English Teachers (2022-2025)
The goal of the ELO Course program is to improve the quality of English language education in Georgia by developing a multi-media online curriculum to strengthen the subject matter expertise of Georgian teachers of English or those seeking to become teachers. Objectives include:
1) A bespoke and relevant online 20-week multi-media curriculum enables approximately 160 current and aspiring Georgian teachers of the English language to strengthen their English language skills;
2) Well-designed assessment tools embedded into the curriculum increase the ability to accurately measure learners’ success;
3) A diverse group of 160 Georgian teachers of English, or those seeking to become teachers of, English are prepared to engage in the 20-week course;
4) Adult learners who are either teachers of English or seeking to become teachers of English increase their English language skills.
An American EL Specialist and four Georgian EL curriculum developers/trainers have developed a 10-unit online course of American EL instruction on the Canvas platform based on the National Geographic Pathways multi-media textbook. Each unit is designed to advance participants’ reading, listening, writing, and speaking capacities. The course is supplemented with enrichment resources and pedagogical instruction in Georgian to improve classroom delivery, resulting in 80 hours of synchronous instruction presented two evenings a week, and 80 hours of asynchronous self-paced study over the 20-week program.
