English Language, USAID Civics & Economic Integration Program (2022-2027)
Within the USAID Civic and Economic Integration Program, PH serves as a subaward resource partner to the UN Association of Georgia in supporting the Program’s 16 Youth Centers (in 14 urban centers/municipalities) and activities. PH has adapted and deployed its content-based blended program of English language instruction and entrepreneurship, borrowing methodological approaches and teacher networks from PH’s ongoing English Access Microscholarship Program and other English language programs, and adapting the teaching approaches from similar exercises abroad.
PH will further develop and implement its signature blended approach to language instruction and entrepreneurship education. The Program’s English language component targets 1,340 unemployed or underemployed youth (aged approximately 22 to 29) from both majority and minority communities who live in the ethnic and religious minority areas of Georgia over the program’s lifetime. The content-based language instruction combines entrepreneurship education with Business English so the young beneficiaries can advance their career path and/or start their own businesses.
The 7½ month English language course will provide 120 hours of vocational English focused on Business English learning, training on the basic requirements for start-up businesses in Georgia, the ABCs of business plan development, the use of social media for marketing purposes, and leadership.
PH will train all the English language course instructors to ensure Western, learner-centered teaching methodologies are utilized and that the course focuses on hands-on, experiential learning. The instructors will be recruited from the community so that the local knowledge of the teachers and the curricula will be available for use after the program’s completion.
