Lynn McNair
Board Chair
Lynn McNair is the inaugural president of the Windward Fund, an independent 501(c)(3) with a mission to build a more impactful environmental movement by connecting people across diverse geographies, sectors, and communities.
Lynn brings more than 25 years of experience in the nonprofit world, setting strategy, developing fiscal capacity, establishing partnerships, and facilitating effective collaboration and communication. Lynn most recently served as the chief advancement officer for Georgetown Day School, and immediately prior to that as vice president of philanthropic partnerships for the Alliance for Excellent Education.
Previously, Lynn served in leadership roles at the Internet Society, the Salzburg Global Seminar, the American Association of University Women, the National Governors Association, and The Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies.
Nahela Hadi
Vice Chair
Nahela Hadi is a dynamic executive non-profit leader with extensive experience developing and implementing national and global issues-based campaigns. For 10 years Nahela served in several key positions at the United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA) as marketing consultant, Deputy Director, and Executive Director of the Adopt-A-Minefield campaign; Vice President of Humanitarian Campaigns, where her portfolio was expanded to include HERO, a campaign to provide school-based support to orphans and vulnerable children in HIV/AIDS affected communities in Africa; and Senior Vice President/COO.
As a consultant, Nahela has worked on issues ranging from domestic violence to lung and respiratory health, providing support in areas such as fundraising, program development, campaign development and evaluation, organizational development, strategic planning, marketing and communications.
Beth Humstone
Secretary
Beth Humstone joined the PH board in 2016. She is an urban planner with extensive experience working with small cities and rural communities on smart growth, housing, transportation, historic preservation, and conservation issues. She utilizes her skills in public policy, community engagement, development impact assessment, and regulatory strategies.
Formerly, she was Chair of the Board of the Vermont Natural Resources Council and the Vermont Housing and Conservation Trust Fund. She was the Executive Director of the Vermont Forum on Sprawl (later Smart Growth Vermont), Director of U.S. Programs for the Institute for Sustainable Communities, and President of the Growth Management Leadership Alliance.
Beth is also an Advisor to the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Ali Jalili
Treasurer
Ali Jalili joined the PH Board in 2021. Ali spent his entire career in furtherance of international peace and understanding on behalf of the United States and served as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State from 1997 – 2020. His Foreign Service career included 4 years in Russia and 3 in the Middle East, as well as 6 years directly managing U.S. foreign assistance projects in Southeast Asia and in the West Bank.
Prior to joining the State Department, Ali counseled U.S. small businesses on export opportunities as an International Trade Specialist with the Department of Commerce. As a Peace Corps Volunteer, Ali developed and taught the environmental education curriculum in several elementary schools on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean.
Ali has an undergraduate degree in Biology and Environmental Studies from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies from Yale University. He speaks proficient Spanish and has experience in Russian, Thai, and Farsi.
Charles Hosford
Co-Founder
Charlie Hosford is a co-founder and former Co-Director of PH International. With a background in architecture and experience in community leadership, Charlie and two other friends founded Project Harmony in 1985.
Since then, Charlie has been managing, leading, and advising PH in a variety of ways, including his current role on the Board of Directors. Charlie’s energy, vision, and enthusiasm are contagious and always appreciated.
Katherine Cadwell
Co-Founder
Kathy is one of the co-founders of PH International and a social studies teacher at Harwood Union High School. She has traveled and taught extensively in the countries of the former Soviet Union, including teaching English in the Republic of Georgia where she continues to offer professional training opportunities for teachers and students.
In recent years, Kathy has worked tirelessly to create the fundamental shift to student-directed learning that must be at the heart of school transformation. In 2016, Kathy was awarded the Foundation for Excellence in Education award for Vermont and the Gilder-Lehrman History Teacher of the Year for Vermont.
Siri Oswald
Board Member
Siri Oswald joined the PH International board in 2016. She is the Vice President of Talent Management for CDRF Global in Arlington, Virginia, and formerly served as Vice President of Operations, Director of Research Partnerships, and Program Director with CDRF.
Previously, Siri was Senior Program Officer for Global Development/Global Libraries for the Gates Foundation. She also worked as a “roving staff member” among several of the PH offices from the mid to late ’90s.
Siri serves on the boards of the Grassroot Project and Girls on the Run of Northern Virginia.
Ed Denmark
Board Member
Dr. Edward Denmark has thirty years of policing experience working nationally and internationally as an instructor, trainer, and advisor. He provides expertise on numerous law enforcement topics and community issues with a strong focus on the appropriate use of force, leadership, and organizational development.
Chief Denmark currently serves on the international advisory boards of the United States Institute of Peace in Tunisia and the Georgian Center for Strategy and Development. Domestically, he served as Chief of Police in Harvard, Mass. and teaches courses in Fair and Impartial Policing, Procedural Justice, and De-Escalation Techniques. Chief Denmark is a certified Advanced Force Science Specialist.
Claudia Eisinger
Board Member
Claudia Eisinger joined the PH International board in 2011. She has 25 years of qualitative research experience in both the United States and the United Kingdom.
Specializing in complex, cutting-edge advertising and branding research, Claudia has worked with a variety of national and international clients, social marketing departments, advertising agencies, and consulting specialists to develop marketing and communication plans, strategic advertising programs, and creative work.
Phillip Smith
Board Director Emeritus
Phil Smith is managing partner and chairman of two Washington DC area companies, specifically Global Resources Network LLC and Consortium for Educational Engagement International LLC. He has served as President and Executive Director of the Midwest Universities Consortium for International Activities Inc. (MUCIA), a non-profit corporation implementing collaborations and partnerships with universities, governments, and private sector organizations abroad.
Phil has also served as a visiting research economist for the U.S. Department of Transportation, staff economist for the US Senate, and consultant on behalf of the US Agency for International Development and the U.S. Department of State, among other US and non-US private and public sector organizations.
Phil is Professor and Senior Advisor Emeritus (School of Human Resource and Labor Studies and Senior Advisor for Strategic International Alliances) at Michigan State University.
Lynn Jondahl
Board Director Emeritus
Lynn Jondahl is a public policy advocate who served 22 years as a Michigan State Representative. As a legislator, he sponsored and led successful efforts to enact major environmental and consumer protection legislation.
After leaving the legislature, he served as Co-Director of the Michigan Political Leadership Program at Michigan State University and directed a think tank on state policy issues. He also currently serves as the Chair of the Michigan Campaign Finance Network.
