Hong Kong – Macau Education Summer Scholarship Program (2024-2025)

In the past 10 years, Hong Kong has seen a steady decline in secondary and post-secondary students. Even so, many Hong Kong students cannot gain admission to local universities despite meeting the minimum requirements because of the limited availability of seats. Additionally, students who do gain admission to Hong Kong universities may not be admitted into their preferred programs, which include finance, law, and medicine, as these programs are highly competitive. Consequently, there is a strong demand to study in the United States. Feedback received from the U.S. Commercial Service’s recruitment partners highlighted an increased demand in healthcare and the life sciences, game design, and data science fields in Hong Kong (Hong Kong – Education and Training (trade.gov)).

PH International will conduct a transformative, one-month, U.S.-based, pre-college summer scholarship experience for ten 15-17 year-old students from Hong Kong and Macau with support from partners who coordinated the EducationUSA Academy Scholarship Program in 2024 (Sustainable Learning and Peterson Foundation). Program objectives include:

  • Selected students fully engage and excel in the Education Summer Scholarship Program due to extensive administrative preparation and planning.
  • Students feel informed and supported concerning their travel questions and logistical arrangements.
  • The experiences of the pre-program sessions, campus-based course, and follow-on programming result in students who are prepared with the knowledge and skills needed to be comfortable and successful in their placements at a U.S. higher education institution.
  • All key aspects of project management meet the expectations of the U.S. Consulate in Hong Kong and Macau as well as those of the Grants Office and Education Specialist for the program.
